Reduced Ascending Aortic Strain and Distensibility Earliest Manifestations of Vascular Aging in Humans
Aims : To compare age-related changes of central measures of aortic function with carotid distensibility, global carotid–femoral pulse wave velocity, and wave reflections.
This study demonstrates a large decrease in ascending aortic distensibility in an individual before the fifth decade of its life.
The best markers of large artery stiffening are ascending aortic distensibility in younger and aortic arch pulse wave velocity in older individuals.
